Net Zero Technology Centre / Air Control Entech (ACE) Case Study


Overview:

Remote inspection of O&G facilities, through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for offshore inspection. ACE advanced drones can improve on traditional rope access inspection, increasing the speed of inspections, this technology also improves safety by removing the need for offshore personnel to physically inspect the often difficult to access areas of offshore structures.

Benefits:

A large portion of the annual UKCS visual inspection budget is associated with scaffolding and rope access activities, UAV inspection can potentially reduce these costs significantly

This Net Zero Technology Centre project delivered four proprietary UAV designs: man-less tank entry, ultrasonic testing, 3D Laser and RFID scanning all of which are fitted with live video streaming capability to support enhanced visual inspection capability as well as robust flight control systems.

The next phase of the project will comprise research and development into flight control systems and improved flight performance through battery technology.
