The UK Continental Shelf is home to more than 290 offshore installations, 250 subsea systems and 7,000 miles of pipeline, which are critical to providing the UK with a stable supply of energy for years to come and support an orderly transition to net zero. Infrastructure owners must manage these assets efficiently.
The NSTA works closely with industry to promote best practice using a number of approaches, including through the development of stewardship expectations. We also collect large volumes of insightful data from licensees via an annual survey. This information is used for, amongst other things, benchmarking – showing operators how they compare with one another across a range of key metrics. In addition, we hold pro-active, targeted meetings with operators to review their performance and discuss ways to improve.
Priority areas for the NSTA and industry include progressing projects which support the UK’s energy security and net zero targets. This involves reducing emissions from assets by switching to low-carbon power and eliminating routine flaring and venting by 2030.
