Brief overview of role

We have a great opportunity for a Financial Systems & Business Analyst to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance business Partner, the role will contribute to the day-to-day operation of the NSTA’s finances and will work closely with both the Financial Accountant as well as with the business and other stakeholders to ensure the robust and efficient working of the finance system and NSTA’s finances. The role will cover both business as usual & project work, you will liaise with both technology & finance teams internally and externally.

NSTA Finance team have a track record of promoting and growing staff.  We have embarked on a process automation journey to benefit not only the function but the rest of the organisation. This role will take a proactive role in this automation project, and we are looking for someone with passion, drive and a curiosity to challenge and ask questions that bring meaning to your outputs and analysis.

The nature of the role will mean that building and maintaining strong relationships with IT, program management and Third-party support providers is crucial. This role will be the main point of contact for all finance system queries and related issues.  Once the planned enhancements have been achieved the role is expected to have more time to develop the analytics for the team.  For the ambitious person, the role has been designed with path to the next grade level.

Detailed job description and key responsibilities

  • Main point of contact for all finance system user queries.
  • Be the point person in managing the Finance Systems Supplier relationship.
  • Design and develop financial systems and solutions.
  • Maintain and improve existing financial databases and applications.
  • Assist in the development and use of financial system applications.
  • Analyse and document user requirements for new and existing systems.
  • Utilise automated systems in the analysis of financial data requirements.
  • Conduct assessment on software and hardware needs and design new or modified systems to meet changing demands. Actively partake and contribute to system and process re-engineering efforts within the NSTA and evaluate the impact of process changes.
  • Develop tools, templates, and reports to support financial management processes.
  • Analyse data, identify trends and generate insights relevant to the organization.
  • Provide process design recommendations to improve systems and maximize efficiencies.
  • Assist in the management of accounting and financial data.
  • Provide financial and business analysis to support the planning and decision-making process.
  • Develop financial models to provide insights into profitability, capital investment and business cases.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and budgets.
  • Providing staff training on the use of financial systems and function as a liaison to the IT department.
  • Develop, co-ordinate and maintain system user and procedure manuals.
  • Assist in the Financial & Management accounting and reporting as and when required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Specialist Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Licenses, Memberships or Language

Essential:

  • Qualified or part-qualified CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent
  • Systems administrator experience
  • Able to lead within the finance team and business on the design and develop finance reports
  • Experience working within small/medium organisations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Proven experience working closely with IT system service provider and IT department to provide an effective service to end users
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Passionate about robust data and adhering to processes and procedures within the finance system

Desirable:

  • MS Dynamics experience
  • PowerBI experience
  • Experience working within the Public Sector
  • Understanding and/or experience of the oil and gas industry
  • Experience developing system procedures and issuing training guides and manuals
  • Ability to train finance systems users both within and outside the finance team
