Wideband Acoustics for Smart Pigging

Pipelines2data (P2D) use their unique inSonify technology to internally inspect pipelines. InSonify uses wideband acoustics to collect quantitative pipeline data (i.e. corrosion and debris location, etc.), allowing the Operator to monitor internal pipeline conditions and integrity without the need to deploy in-line inspection pigs.

P2D's inSonify system can rapidly detect and accurately localise flow restrictions and flaws in critical revenue generating pipelines. This means quicker, more cost-effective screening surveys.

With 45,000km of subsea pipeline within the UKCS and considerable cost associated with inspections, inSonify is estimated to deliver potential for significant cost savings to the industry.

Five Net Zero Technology Centre North Sea field trials are set up for this project, 3 have been conducted on pipelines with Major Operators to date.

The inSonify technology has been successfully deployed on operational pig’s, within a live pipeline environment. The pig successfully passed through the pipeline and a full dataset was recorded, gathering information that enabled the determination of quantity and consistency of debris, measuring the pipeline internal geometry and measure wall thickness / thinning. The measurement of internal/external corrosion was not performed, but surface condition changes were identifiable that could be attributable to general surface corrosion. This information allowed operators to make informed decisions on pipeline integrity management.
