Energy Integration Project

This video (embedded below) gives a brief overview of the Energy Integration Project, which launched in 2019 with the help of a £900,000 grant from the Better Regulation Executive’s Regulators’ Pioneer Fund, to look at the mix of energy sources and storage solutions needed for the transition to a low carbon economy.

In the second stage of the project, continuing to work with BEIS, The Crown Estate, Crown Estate Scotland and Ofgem we identified that offshore renewables (wind, wave and tidal) could contribute around 30% towards the UK’s net zero target; and that the UK Continental Shelf could support, in combination with complementary investments in onshore energy infrastructure, around 60% of the UK’s decarbonisation requirements.

The third stage of the project is currently underway looking at how deployment of early net zero projects can be accelerated through technical studies, information sharing, bringing together regulators to remove barriers and improve cross-industry coordination.
