The Oil & Gas Authority (OGA) is gearing up for the UK/Norway joint technology hackathons which include six major North Sea operators, with the first event at Aker Solutions in Aberdeen on Wednesday, 22 November.

Interest has been high with around 100 delegates already signed up for the innovative cross-border venture, which has been organised by Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF), Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP), and supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and the OGA.

The second hackathon will follow in Stavanger on November 30, 2017.

The joint tech conferences are a major North Sea effort to harness potential new value adding technologies to directly enhance and extend late life production and follow through to cost-saving approaches to decommissioning.

Operators AkerBP, ConocoPhillips, Point Resources, Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Limited, Shell and Statoil will each share their own real challenges, which will be followed by interactive group sessions to discuss potential solutions.

A wide of range of challenges are on the table including balancing late life production with decommissioning and how to address issues such as power generation, deck space, cranes and working at height during these operations.

Others include optimising safe, reliable and cost-efficient production in mature fields, with the spotlight on finding new and better solutions to maintenance, new technology related to inspection, painting and repairs.

Bill Cattanach, Manager of Supply Chain, OGA said: “Momentum has been building for these engagements which will provide the opportunity for operators and service sector to come together in a collaborative environment. This is first time that the UK and Norway have combined forces to address major technological and cost saving challenges and we are optimistic this powerful approach will reap success. We would like to thank Aker Solutions for their support in hosting the Aberdeen event.”

Ben Foreman, ITF Technology Manager added “By facilitating this vital engagement both between operators and the supply chain, and the UK and Norway, we have the opportunity to tackle a number of major challenges faced in the North Sea. These events promote collaborative working and provide a platform to highlight innovative approaches, processes and technologies.”

Following the event, the discussions will be captured in an output report, which will be shared and used to develop an actionable forward plan.

We would like to acknowledge Aker Solutions for hosting the event taking place in Aberdeen on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. The cost to attend the event is £50 (inc VAT) per person. To view the event agenda, the operator challenges and to register to attend please visit the - ITF website
