Brief overview of role

Based in Aberdeen and situated within the Information Services Team in the Corporate Directorate the job holder will report to the Head of Data Management Operations and Development and work closely with the Senior Technical Services Manager. The role is highly focussed on collaborative engagement with internal and external stakeholders to help the development of data management and regulatory systems and their protocols and controls to ensure compliance with the requirements of the OGA.

The job holder will participate in the design, implementation, maintenance and development of portal systems and play a leading role in the improvement of data quality. The job holder will need to have excellent Data Management skills as there will be a particular focus on applying these skills to aspects of applications in the Oil Portal associated with OGA’s regulatory processes including drilling consents, well registers and other sub-surface technical and regulatory systems.

Detailed job description and key responsibilities

  • Engagement with external licensee stakeholders for the well consents portal application including user training, troubleshooting, update and development of guidance.
  • Host user group meetings for the drilling consents system with operators and contractors to collate and assess improvements in service and applications
  • Continuously improving the workflow and system for well consents to ensure a positive & seamless user experience that supports the operators in submitting quality data.
  • Perform the role of “Intelligent Customer function” with colleagues in the operations and other directorates to include understanding and communicating their operational data management requirements and supporting their implementation
  • Work as part of the Data Management and Application support service, managing and controlling data internal and external.
  • Update and maintenance of “key registers” or systems of record for wells and subsurface resources.
  • Develop and implement other systems (apart from drilling consents) and procedures documentation in accordance with the Energy Portal to reinforce data and information strategy.

  • Competence 3: Building Capability for All - • An ability to understand and translate complex technical and regulatory issues and explain them to a diverse audience of stakeholders.

Specialist Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Licenses, Memberships or Language

Essential Desirable
• Knowledge of geological, geophysical and petrophysical domains and their associated data and its use in subsurface interpretation software applications such as Petrel
• Track record in stakeholder engagement
• An understanding of data quality and data architecture
• A knowledge of the regulatory background in the UK with a particular focus on the licensing regime and drilling and production consents
• A comprehensive knowledge of the exploration and production lifecycle and associated information management principles and workflows.
• Excellent communication skills
• High level of reporting and analytical skills.
• Change management capability
• Understanding of data governance principles
